Our Diaper Bag and What’s In It

The diaper bag. It’s amazing what moms can fit into such a small space. We’ve been through three different diaper bags, and the one we’ve landed on is definitely my favorite. My first diaper bag only offered an over-the-shoulder strap, so when we had baby number two I knew this wouldn’t work. Rookie mistake. Our second diaper bag’s zipper broke. Next. Finally, my sister had a baby and introduced me to our current and favorite bag. We’ve also carted this thing around for a while, so read on to find out what we put inside and why we love it.

The Bag

This Freshly Picked diaper bag takes the cake for me for a few reasons:

  1. It’s wide so the items you put inside aren’t stacked on top of each other, which means you dig less for what you’re trying to find.
  2. It’s a backpack, cross body, or purse, so you’ve got options on how you want to use it.
  3. There are many pockets.
  4. It wipes clean.
  5. It comes in a ton of different colors. If you can’t find the color you want on their website, check Amazon. That’s actually where I ended up ordering ours.

The Goods

We know the area inside the diaper bag is sacred space, so over the last (almost) five years we’ve learned what works for our family to pack along at all times. (read: snacks)

Remember how I mentioned loving the width of this bag? I can honestly say our diaper bag almost always looks organized like this because of that big open space in the middle. Here is the long list of what we keep in our diaper bag:

  1. Bib + silverware
  2. Wipes
  3. Diapers
  4. Extra outfits (usually in the side pocket opposite the bib)
  5. Snack bag
  6. Toys (under the red first aid kit bag)
  7. Books
  8. Formula divider

The side pockets usually contain a bottle (but it could go inside where one of the side pouches is insulated). I usually keep two or three pacifiers on the back side of the diaper bag in the big pocket for easy access, as well as hand sanitizer. Back inside the diaper bag there is a changing pad that comes with the bag and a zipper pouch behind it where I usually store Mommy items (tampons and tequila shooters, no?) that I prefer to keep more hidden. There is also a front zipper pocket that I currently don’t even have anything in because of all the other pockets!

Are you curious about what’s in the red first aid kit? I’ll tell ya what, I’m slightly obsessed with that little $10 bag because it has all my medicines for the kids (and Shout wipes for Dad) and all the little pockets keep everything organized. My sister gave this diaper bag first aid kit as part of her baby shower gift, and I think I might steal that idea!

First Aid Kit

I accidentally stumbled upon this little bag while I was at Target. There was a deal in which you could buy so many boxes of Band Aids and get the bag free, so of course I did just that. What I didn’t realize was how much I’d grow to love this little number. Here is the link to Target or you can get it on Amazon for $10.

So what’s in it?

  1. Diaper cream (obvi)
  2. Nose Frida (we’ve used this little sucker ((get it?)) on the go so many times)
  3. Bacitracin (antibacterial ointment for owies)
  4. Hydrocortisone (anti-inflammatory ointment for bad diaper rashes or weird skin issues)
  5. Lotrimin (aka clotrimazole for yeasty diaper rashes)
  6. Aquaphor (especially useful in the winter for dry cheeks or skin)
  7. Bandages
  8. Ibuprofen/Tylenol
  9. Benadryl
  10. Oral syringe
  11. Thermometer
  12. Shout wipes (for Dad)
  13. Lotion

*I’m very lucky that I get to just ask my husband which creams to use for what since he’s a Pediatrician. If you aren’t sure what to use on your child, please ask your pediatrician.

What am I missing that you always keep in your diaper bag? Also, what snacks are you packing? Leave a comment below!

  1. LOVE this bag!! I should probably just have #3 so I can get the bag. The hubs should go for that, right?! 😂 #stilltryingtoconvincehim

  2. More snacks. 😆 seriously, SO MANY SNACKS! We had a little notebook in ours for our daycare provider. We asked that she jot notes in there about nap times, poopy diapers, when they ate, etc. Was perfect at the end of a work day to look back & “see how their day was.” Especially if it was busy at pickup and you didn’t have much time to chat. Love your first aid kit!

  3. Just got this bag and my husband had me add sunscreen, bug spray, and hand sanitizer! Love this idea though so thanks!
