DIY Textured Vases: An Easy and Cheap Update to Your Decor

I love the trend of textured vases right now, and have been fortunate to order some from Ann Marie + Co., as well as the Studio McGee line with Target. In my kitchen I still had some upper cabinet shelves that still needed decorating, and found myself wanting a few more textured bowls and vases, but I didn’t want to pay the price for them.

So, Grace and I set off to Goodwill and picked up a handful of vases for $2 or $3 apiece. We then went to Menards where I found Fast Dry Premium Spackling for roughly $8, and Rustoleum Chalked spray paint in Linen White and Charcoal for about $6.50 a can.

Getting started:

I first wiped down each vase, and then took my spackling tool and went to work. I just took a small chunk at a time and worked it on until it was the direction and thickness I wanted. This only took a few minutes! One thing I did notice is that if you try and go back over some parts that have already started drying, it will start coming off. It’s best to do one whole section at a time. Once I was finished, I let it dry overnight.

Make it Pretty Now

The next day I took the dried bowl and pitcher outside and did one coat of spray paint. I did the Linen White on the pitcher which was very similar in color to the spackling. This was nice because it showed less gaps in spray paint I may have missed. Then I did the bowl in Charcoal paint. I looooved the color but knew right away it would require another coat. The first coat I had the bowl tipped upside down, and the second coat I did right-side up. This was nice because then I was able to get different angles to fill more gaps between the spackling. I also did a quick coat inside the bowl.

And that was it! I let them dry overnight and now they’re ready for a shelf. This was a really cheap and easy project that I tackled during nap time. I couldn’t believe how quick it went.

Tell me, are you going to try it?!
