Some of you may have heard me mention before a conversation I had with a family member about starting your day with a win. For me, that win has been making my bed first thing.

But this wasn’t always the case, and I think it was because my bed wasn’t very appealing to look at once it was all done up.

About four years ago, Tate decided he wanted to invest in a good, quality bed. After doing some research, we decided on a Tempur-Pedic, and chose the second from the firmest option. And we love it.

We also both decided on the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow that has exceeded our expectations.

Making the Bed

With so much thought put into what lie under us, I also wanted our bedding to look as great as it felt and actually make me want to make the bed.

This was the goal for my mom’s bedroom update as well, as she specifically requested it feel like she was crawling into a hotel bed at night.

After reading Chris Loves Julia’s post on how she makes her bed, and watching Anna Mae Grove’s and Urbanology highlight on how they create a cozy bed, I adapted what I learned to what worked for me and also used this in my mom’s bedroom makeover.

4 Steps to Making Our Bed

As I mentioned on Instagram, making my bed needed to be fast and not fussy. Here’s how I make it work for me:

Step 1: After putting on a fitted sheet, pull up a sheet to the top of the mattress.

Step 2: Lay your sleeping pillows on top of sheet.

Step 3: Lay a duvet overtop of bed and pull down 2/3 the way towards the bottom.

Fold the duvet back up overtop itself, even with the first fold.

Step 4: Add your throw pillows.

That’s it! Now it’s just like your favorite coffee shop: inviting and cute to look at.
