Barn Guest Bedroom Reveal

When the time came to design the guest bedroom in the barn, I didn’t actually believe a brown velvet bed frame would occupy the room, but one trip furniture shopping completely changed all of that, and I’m so glad it did.

Months ago, I was messing around one night and decided to design a few different mock-up guest rooms. All were “would be cool if it worked” ideas, and I knew I wanted a moodier vibe, but in my head I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go with the bed.

It had already been decided to take the rug from our bedroom and move it out to the barn, the matte black fans were already installed, and I have had these night stands in my mind for months.

My husband and I decided to venture to Des Moines for a furniture shopping trip, mainly focused on the couches for the barn upstairs.

We had some luck at Redekers in Boone on our way down, and now I was tired, hangry, and ready to be done shopping for the day. With some coaxing, I agreed to stop at Homemakers to look for a few things still left on our list, and we headed up the escalator with a much needed coffee and cookie in hand.

As I made an accelerated lap around the entire floor full of bed frames and mattresses, I paused in front of the brown velvet frame I’d previously sourced online, not expecting to see it in the wild.

I made an off-handed comment about how this bed had been on my list, and he simply said, “Get it.”

I’m sure he fell in love with the bed and his quick comment had nothing to do with trying to check something off our list quickly and efficiently.

Once the bed was purchased, everything else came together so smoothly.

The rug (sadly no longer available) was laid out, the nightstands were set, and the large wall above the bed was adorned with a large wall art tapestry from Magnolia.

Bedding Details

I decided to use a white linen duvet cover from Puredown Pro, grabbed these pillows from Amazon, and we decided to purchase this mattress as well that’s been used twice already in our home.

Can we talk about the pillow covers?! These tapestry pillow covers by Twenty Third by Deanne are such high quality and the colors are beautiful. This is the 22×22” size, and they’re called Adeline so it was only fitting they be purchased for our home!

Next to the bed you’ll notice the thrifted lamp I found for $4, where a quick Google search would price them at $200+.

When guests do sleep here, I added this faux leather charging station, which I think looks very handsome in the room.

What’s Next

I can’t wait to add some finishing touches to the room, including some wall art, maybe a planter and faux plant, etc. I also need to order curtains, and will probably go with a lighter color like the mood board at the beginning of the post.

It’s a little bittersweet having everything get finished because I love the process so much. Let me know what you think so far!
